Lust for Life Picks

15:00 – Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall

Travellin Band Creedence Clearwater revival Royal Albert HallBob Smeaton/ 2022/ USA/ 86 min.

In 1970, during the height of their international fame, Creedence Clearwater Revival performed for two nights with the aim of proving themselves as capable as music legends such as Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles, who had just announced their separation. After more than 50 years, the original multitrack tapes of their remarkable performances have been restored, mixed, and mastered to provide a superior listening experience. Jeff Bridges, an Academy Award-winning actor, narrates the documentary “Travelin’ Band,” which chronicles the band’s journey from their humble beginnings in El Cerrito, CA, to their rapid ascent to stardom, with an abundance of previously unseen footage. The film reaches its climax with the band’s historic concert at the Royal Albert Hall, the only complete concert footage of the original CCR lineup ever released.

17:00 – Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami

Grace Jones: Bloodlight and Bami
Sophie Fiennes/ 2017/ UK, Ireland/ 115 min.

This electrifying journey through the public and private worlds of pop culture mega-icon Grace Jones is the first film IN-EDIT NL ever screened. To please our nostalgic hearts, we’re bringing it back to the big screen one more time in a special retrospective programme. The film contrasts musical sequences with intimate personal footage, all the while brimming with Jones’s bold aesthetic. A larger-than-life entertainer, an androgynous glam-pop diva, an unpredictable media presence – Grace Jones is all these things and more. Sophie Fiennes’s documentary goes beyond the traditional music biography, offering a portrait as stylish and unconventional as its subject.

19:00 – DIO: Dreamers Never Die

Dio Dreamers Never Die
Don Argott, Demian Fenton/ 2022/ USA/ 113 min.

Beautifully highlighting both his powerful voice and his gentle heart, “DIO: Dreamers Never Die” delves deep into the singer’s incredible rise from 50’s doo-wop crooner, to his early classic rock days in Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, to replacing the iconic lead singer Ozzy Osborne in Black Sabbath, to finally cement his legend with DIO. Ronnie’s biography is completely unique to the tired sex, drugs and rock and roll cliches. The film is about perseverance, dreams and the power to believe in yourself.
