Before the performance of Lee Fields in Paradiso, we present you a screening of the new documentary ‘Lee Fields: Faithful Man’ in collaboration with Paradiso and Melkweg Amsterdam. Lee Fields is a funk and soul legend who recorded his first single back in 1969, also referred to as Little JB, due to his physical and vocal resemblance to James Brown.

Lee Fields has been breathing soul since his birth in 1951. As a teenager, he moved to New York in the late 1960s to pursue his career as a singer. With success, because the American artist soon grows into a phenomenon and goes on tour with Kool and the Gang, Sammy Gordon and the Hip-Huggers, O.V Wright, Darrell Banks and Little Royal, among others. Today he is at the forefront of the soul revival, his music being chopped up and sampled by hip-hop artists like J. Cole and Travis Scott.

Directors Jessamyn Ansary and Joyce Mishaan spent nine years working on this film, telling the story of how Lee finally found his place in soul history – from vinyl to virtual, and back again!

After the screening, there will be a discussion with Lee Fields himself, if his schedule allows it. Tickets are still available for his performance in Paradiso the same evening, leaving you enough time to grab a bite to eat in-between. Can a Saturday get any better than this?
