Fanny: The Right to Rock
Director: Bobbi Jo Hart
2021 | Canada | 96 min | English spoken | No subtitles | Dutch Premiere
Reuniting some 50 years after their debut LP, Fanny: The Right to Rock looks at the first all-female rock group to release on a major label.
Started by two Filipina-American sisters back in the 1960s, Fanny soon morphed into a band who counted non-other than David Bowie as a super fan. But, after 5 albums, Fanny has been largely written out of the history of rock. Now, after having faced continual barriers, from sexism to ageism, the incredible women of Fanny are ready to claim their hallowed place in the halls of rock ‘n’ roll fame.
Side programme: Q&A with the director moderated by Gianna Tomiyama, co-founder at Studio HER.
